I don’t know about you, but I am always looking to increase my squeeze page conversion rates and so I am constantly looking for new tips and tricks from other internet marketers.
Well, I just happened to find this free ebook (you don’t even have to give him your email address) by Jason Fladlien. (Download link is down the bottom so you can atleast pretent to read the rest of my post!), and it really had some of the best tips that I have ever seen to increase conversion from your squeeze page – and I wanted to share one of the tips with you – and you can download his ebook to get the full story.
The one way you will dramatically increase the conversion rate of your squeeze page is to:
Only Collect Their Email Address
Now I know what you are going to say. “But don’t we need their names so that we can personalise our emails to them?
Well this is Jasons arguement against collecting names:
The only time we collect someone’s name is on the order form.
There is never a good reason we can justify collecting their name on the optin page. Fact – it will ALWAYS decrease your response if you capture their name.
So what do you do instead? Just collect email. That’s it. Nothing else.
Yep, you can’t do that stupid “name personalization” in your autoresponder sequence – but who falls for that crap anyway? And do you really want to “trick” your prospects into buying form you? I don’t.
So there is no reason to collect a name on an option page. So don’t. Collect email address only and notice a nice bump in your conversion.
It’s definitely something worth discussion.

Numbers don’t lie: squeeze pages work! I’m not in the business of collecting subscribers so I actually don’t have one and have no intention of every having one in the near future.
But if I did, I would probably collect the person’s name. Jason brings up a good point but I believe anyone who is willing to opt in with an email would also be willing to provide a name. Even if you’re just asking for first name, that’s great for form letters. I know, Jason calls it a trick but even something as simple as having a name in a greeting can do wonders. There are plenty of metrics to support that.

I have never thought of this but logically it makes sense to not ask for names. People probably think you’re asking too much if you ask for names. Being a new blogger I am also looking for ways to increase readership and also monetize my blog. I started my blog in November of 09 and I was well prepared to post on a daily for many many months before I saw any revenue. I don’t blog about making money on my site because that is simply not my niche, but I do have a tab on there that says “Make Money With Me”. I wanted to try that out because it seems as if everyone blogs about making money. I don’t have a problem with that but I did want to try something different. It has seemed to work because In less than 2 months I have started to see revenue. I don’t know if it will be money to live off of for life, but it does seem to be helping me run PPC campaigns and provide funding for other advertising. I hope to add a few billboards in some major cities along with mass press releases. The average person would look at my site and not notice anything different from any other blog site, but a blogger would know what I use to monetize my site. They would also see that my “make Money With Me” page is different than average. It seems to work so I believe doing things different actaully work.

@ Gabe – I can definitely see both sides of the coin. Some of my websites collect both name and email, while this one just collects email. I don’t have enough data yet to make the call for myself.

That’s an interesting take on squeeze page conversion. If I capture anyone’s email address I do like to use his/her name whenever possible. OK, it makes life a little harder, but it works for me.

I definitely agree with this. I know that when I sign up to something, the less I have to enter the better. If it’s just my email address I am more likely to sign up.

It’s a good thing that you’ve selected this tip to discuss. I’ve never thougt about it in the other way, but it is true, I am much more willing to subscribe to something that only asks for my emailaddress.

That is a really interesting tip, something I’d never considered.To be honest I have noticed a lot of my subscribers don’t use a real name, but most of them do. I always use the personalize features in my emails, but there is a point about nobody ever falling for them anyway. I may try this on one of my sites and see how things improve.
