Is anyone utilizing generic ink to refill their cartridges? I am asking because I’m a poor varity scholar who just purchased the printer, but have loads of pictures to print. I purchased an extremely nifty refill equipment from ebay referred to as EZink and it was $25 and can refill each tank three times in a row! The one and only setback I have discovered is I can’t reset the ink levels as I do not use a new cartridge. It however still prints effectively however I still get an annoying error prior to printing. I have been examining if there is a possible method to reset the ink ranges or disable them and so far have discovered nothing. This is an fantastic printer. I’m a single mom and I scanned my son’s sr. photos and printed them on this printer and believe me you truthfully were not able to see the difference between the genuine from the copy. It prints stunning photos! I can actually suggest you buy this. I recently purchased the Ezink refill off of eBay as well. It is amazing. I just paid $15 for mine so I suppose the price went down? In any case, it refills each ink cartridges discounted three different times and so far I have not had displayed the error message that Lab Brat is speaking about (perhaps because I refilled it before it went all the way empty? I highly urge the use of ink refills.
The problem with this printer is that Canon is using their own new cartridges in it, and they have covered the entire cartridge so that you cannot see how much ink is really in it. This also makes it a lot harder for people to refill. It’s for this single fact I ended up having to purchase an Epson printer instead of Canon. I like Canon, however they are going overboard trying to stop folks refilling on by themselves. The chips are lousy enough, and have always given me errors on my Canon ip4500 printer since the first day when I purchased it. Supposedly there will be reset chips out for this printer some time, however there aren’t any guarantees to that.
I think it would be unlawful for them to be preventing anyone from filling it with no matter what type of ink they want in it. We paid for the printer, we now really have the freedom to do whatever we want with it. If this printer is like my IP4500, it won’t allow me to print once it displays the ink is *empty* (not low). And with no technique to reset the chips, the generic ink refill will not work.
Sure, I did let my ink run fairly low as I was printing pics which it produces beautifully by the way! and now everytime we make copies it gives a warning that the printer ink could also be running low. It’s simply frustration however nothing that may cause me to stop paying for original new printer ink cartridges if I didnt have to. The EZink refills are wonderful and really easy to change out and most of all, not dirty!
I shopped at Best Buys store this weekend and was unintentionally searching for a printer. Whilst strolling down the printer passageway I saw a sign that read “Canon Representative in today”. So I spoke to the gentleman, and he informed me the fifth printer cartridge or an additional black is used for photographs. My knowledge is one black printer ink cartridge is for text and one is for photos. My concern was ink utilization, and Canon’s adverts for saving ink, etc. The agent advised me that multi-ink printers are more economical because you will be replacing onle color cartridge that runs out, not the entire “shade cartridge” if say your yellow runs out then normally you replace the entire cartridge of ink. What a silly waste of good money! The agent’s answer made good sense to me. I currently have an HP 2575, and I want to smash the printer in my driveway. My new printer is available within the month so all the reviews seem encouraging. I am hoping the Canon ink scenario works out at $13.99 a ink cartridge.In all it does not seem to be as bad as $35 for a colour HP cartridge plus $25 for plain black and white printer ink cartridges.
This printer is a greedy eater when it comes it printer ink. I barely print a few work sheets and I already need to exchange the ink cartridges discounted. For example I just put new blue and cyan cartridges in the printer. I print one thing one week then I printed another thing seven days later no colour only black text and now already each cartridge has only a half a tank. What wastes the ink is whenever you go to print something and the pig decides to begin cleaning the heads which takes 5 minutes before it decides to print. It is going to inform me displaying “low or out of ink” before it even prints any item so you recognize it is using ink when it goes cleans. My new next printer will be a laserjet. I am tired of muti-cartridge inkjet hogs. My last HP printer was similar ink hog however now I buy ink cartridges discounted and save a lot and money purchasing the printer ink cartridges from a company on the internet named Peachtree ink.
