How to Start Building Your List – Niches

Before we get too far into this article I must to talk to you about ‘Niches’

What is a niche? A niche is a term used by marketers. It means to seek out a specific segment of the market. Then develop and promote a website that will begin to develop a loyal customer base. This is designed to bring the marketer a regular stream of income.

Simply put a niche is the subject matter of what you are going to promote.

Often times people know their niche, this is not necessary. But it is easier because you tend to know more about the subject matter when writing your promotional articles.

If you had a previous career in an offline business it might be a good niche to begin with.

An example of this would be… If you were in the mortgage business a good niche for you to work with would be giving mortgage advice and tips online.

But if you do not have a niche right now it is not a problem. However – sooner or later you are going to have to decide on a niche. Some things to consider are, What interest you, what do you like to read about and what do you look at when you are online. These are just a few of the ideas you might want to incorporate in you quest for a niche.

When starting out in Internet Marketing I would suggest that you start with one of the following three niches.

THE BIG THREE NICHES

These are called evergreen niches – because they are universally popular and have a lot of people searching and prepared to BUY information. This is VITALLY important!

Health

Wealth

Lifestyle

Following are some subjects that come within the niches, some of which might interest you or might get your creative juices flowing.

HEALTH – Some ideas in the HEALTH niche are:

HEALTH IDEAS

Eating right -diet – lose weight- gain weight – feeling good – increasing- energy – organic food – healthy eating supplements – medical procedures hair care – skin care – quit smoking  headache relief  -back pain relief – impotence…..

WEALTH – A few ideas in the WEALTH niche could be:

Wealth Ideas

Start your own business – work from home – Internet Marketing – mortgages – credit cards – FOREX – business – opportunities – government grants – debt relief – students who need money – job hunting – online trading – how to purchase foreclosures

LIFESTYLE – Finally some LIFESTYLE ideas you can think about:

Lifestyle Ideas

Mind body and spirit – motivational – computer games – alternative energy – spirituality – pets – DIY – the web – relationship advice – how to sell – you house – religion – stress management – divorce – education – online study – self improvement – dating – persona development…

Once you begin to look at it you will find the lists are virtually endless.

A good place to start looking for your niche is at http://clickbank.com

ClickBank is the largest digital marketplace on the internet. Here there are thousands of products sold every day. If you spend a few hours browsing through clickbank you may find something that grabs your interest and on the way you will be.

But if you do already know your niche – you can start promoting your niche online and begin to “Build That List!!!”

Now what? You know Your Niche – What to Do Next…

Here is what you are going to do to begin to ‘Build That List’ from scratch.

Two things vital to your success online and building a successful, highly responsive list are….

You will need to master:

· How to generate traffic (ie visitors) to you site

· How to capture your traffics information once at you site (how to get their name and email address)

Both are equally important!!

If you follow me I will be showing you this for free – (both of them).

Since they are both very big subject matters I am going to deal with the method of traffic generation this week.

How Do I Actually Generate Traffic To My Site?

QUESTION: Do you know why I have spent a little time talking about niches?

ANSWER: it is because you must ONLY put effort into building a list that is interested in your niche.

You must understand this one thing and SO many people don’t get it.

“Only build a list of customers that are interested in your niche”

There are literally hundreds of different ways to generate or drive traffic to you site. What may work for one person may not work for another. Here is what I have used to gather hundreds of subscribers in only a few short weeks.

Once you know your niche, it’s time to familiarize yourself with forums in your niche subject.

OK, just what is a forum?

Wikipedia definition of forum:

An internet forum – also called a web forum – is an online discussion group. Often HUGE in numbers- these online communities gather to discuss a certain topic.

To find a forum all you have to do is Google “forum and your particular subject”. ie “forums article writing” or forums “weight diet” or forums “weight loss” etc.

All you do is enter the topic of your niche – and up will pop all of the forums you could ever want on your niche topic. Once you begin to browse through them you will find some are better suited to your needs than others. ‘after spending only a few hours you will find which forum(s) will be best for you.

You must begin to get involved. Read posts. Ask questions. And most of all “don’t be shy”!

By reading posts and who posts good content on forums and in articles etc, you will begin to gain a good amount of knowledge about your subject niche. Make it a daily ritual, surfing forums and reading various posts.

Another thing to do is to contribute. You might start with introducing yourself!!! You will be surprised at the response you get from other members of the forum welcoming you.

Keep this in mind, forums WANT new members. They openly welcome you and do their best to make you feel comfortable.

You will also find that you are among a supportive network of like minded individuals.

Ask questions

If you are searching for an answer to a lingering question, Post your question on a forum. Just ask.

Here are two reasons you should become actively involved with forums

ONE: To learn as much as you can

TWO: To cultivate a relationship with other members of the forum.

Go to forum member’s websites and see how they promote their niche.

You can and should use the direct APPROACH. Do this OFTEN!

If you see a website you like, TELL them. Email them and tell them.

By doing this you will very quickly build a relationship with others in the same niche as you.

There is a good reason for this and I will get into it shortly.

I always spend a few weeks building relationships with as many people as I can in my niche. I do this by commenting on their site, asking questions and finding out how they got started

And you want to know something…

….HARDLY ANYBODY DOES THIS!!!

It is by far the simplest way to increase your network of contacts and friends online. After all who wouldn’t line an email from some stranger complimenting their site?

Follow the practice above and you will find it quite easy to build a solid network of people you have met online – in the same niche as you – and doing so in only a few short weeks.

And Now the best Part

Once you have taken the time over the course of a few weeks acclimating yourself with your niche and becoming comfortable with it the real fun begins.

This next step will take a bit more work – but the results are well worth the effort.

One of the BEST ways to build your list is – to offer something of value for free. The simplest way to do this is to write a short report.

If you have not written anything or don’t think you can write don’t “Panic”

Bear in mind that this is a business based on relationships. You should, by now, have a cultivated a few relationships in you niche.

Using the knowledge that you already have in your niche (we will use our mortgage tips example) Just put together a few short pages of USEFUL information.

You might want to write a report along the lines of (lets say) “4 Mortgage Tips for Beginners”

In this report you will want to put a number of links to your website.

You will want to let people know that they are free to do whatever they want with this report (in fact you want them to do this) pass it on – give it away – or even sell it if they wish.

Remember!

Remember

“Building a list of people interested in a particular subject – then sending this list products related to this subject – will make you a very decent living…”

What do you do next?

Now you are going to GIVE this report to all those people that you have build a relationship with. You will email them direct and let them know they can use this report, read it, have it to do with it what they want. You will find most people only too happy to get something of quality that they can use – for free…

You might suggest they send this report to their list.

Remember to post a thread on the various forums – tell them of your FREE report.

This will cost you zero money – just a bit of time and effort. But be sure you GIVE AWAY your report for “Free”.

By doing this soon your report will “be out there”

You need to put on the front page of your report something like “For more free information – more tips – more tricks – sign up for free to www.yourwebsite.com.”

Let’s recap!

  1. Join the various forums related to your niche.
  2. Spend a few days learning how they work.
  3. Start contributing.  Don’t be scared.  Ask questions.  Email members.  Get involved.
  4. Start building relationships/friends in the various forums.
  5. Create a very simple, short, free report on the same subject as your niche.
  6. Post a thread telling of your free report.
  7. Email the new contacts you have made about your report.
  8. Watch as you begin to get subscribers to your site.
